About Chalk Line HQ
Chalk Line HQ is a sports strategy blog focused on probability, game theory, and the ways public perception shapes sports contests and betting markets. Every year millions of fans fill out brackets, enter pools, and make predictions about major tournaments. Most of those decisions are driven by narratives, gut feelings, or the ever-lasting chase of the perfect bracket.
The reality is that these markets and contests reward a different kind of thinking. The goal isn’t always to predict what is most likely to happen, but to understand how everyone else is making their decisions and where that creates an edge.
Why I Started This
I’ve always loved digging into sports data and thinking about how probabilities actually translate into real-world decisions. Sometimes that means looking at betting markets to see what the smartest money believes. Other times it’s looking at public pick percentages to understand where the public may be overconfident. A lot of the fun comes from asking questions like:
– When does it make sense to take the favorite?
– When is fading the public the better strategy?
– How should your approach change depending on the size of a pool or contest?
These types of strategic puzzles show up everywhere in sports, and they’re incredibly fun to think about.
